Swashbucklers, pirates, sword fighting courageous Knights and Fair maidens abound in The Last Good Knight. In the tradition of a Wilbur Smith or Michael Crichton's Medieval block buster Timeline. Action abounds in this historical fictional account. From slaying dragons, to rescuing the King's Whore, to secret missions for good King Henri, no job is too big or too small for the Great Knight, Sir Julian Lackland. But what happens when the only one still willing to take on the bad jobs is too old to be doing them? How does a hero retire from the business of saving people? Here begins the tale of the life and adventures of the peoples Champion. Invincible on both the field of battle and the bedroom, Lackland is a man of intense passion, the highest honor, and deepest loyalties. A mercenary, a bold warrior and a brilliant tactician, he is at times reckless beyond comprehension, and often suicidal; throwing himself into both battle and love with his entire being. His heart is forever given to one woman, but she will never give up the sword, not even for him and her choices leave Lackland with no choices whatsoever. Despite the lack of resolution in his personal life, he somehow endures; his innate sense of the ridiculous, wry wit and humor concealing the fragile man that is Julian Lackland. From his days as a mercenary to his years as the arms-master of Waldeyn, obsession and honor rule his life; these two things both make him and break him. But for all that Julian is the invincible Great Knight, he eventually becomes the Lost Knight. An incident occurs that changes everything and begins his descent into madness. Two great loves form the framework of his life anchoring his sanity and making a love triangle unlike any other. Yet, even in the depths of madness Lackland remains the very soul of knightly courtesy and true nobility; seeking that which was lost, and as always, making the world a safer place.

The Last Good Knight is a timeless, boisterous, rollicking adventure. The narration has almost a lyrical tone - which is quite fitting and gives the feel that the reader is being regaled by a travelling minstrel.

This book does nearly everything well, but one small detail that I found interesting was that the names of people and places are imaginative and descriptive and the reader imediately has a sense of the person or place simply from the name. There is a lot of action and the descriptions of that action make the reader feel immersed in it. Characters (and the relationships between those characters) are diverse, well defined and real enough that the reader can identify with them . . . but not so real that they're boring.

Overall an excellent book that transports the reader to a world that has been masterfully crafted for our entertainment.

The Last Good Knight Connie J Jasperson Pamela Brennan J Darroll Hall 9780615515045 Books Reviews

Another badly written book, immature content and simply unable to finish it. Waste of time and money. Not well formatted for either.

I try to read a book through to the end no matter how bad it is. This is one I couldn't finish. Nowhere in the description did it say anything about being part fantasy but as soon as I started reading I was completely turned off by it. I kept reading for a few more chapters to see if it got any better but, alas, it didn't.
The Last Good Knight, by the amazing author Connie J. Jasperson, was incredibly fun to read! The main characters were very well created, and the storyline mixed adventure and romance so well that I kept turning the pages to see what would happen. Ms. Jasperson is a great wordsmith and a fantastic storyteller. I am looking forward to reading her next books!
Best regards

OK
Probably one of the best compliments a writer can be given--to be told that he/she is a true storyteller. And Jasperson makes her storyteller status obvious in The Last Good Knight.

The story jumps right into action while it develops its world and characters. I was drawn in and it hung on to me tightly until the last page.

The story centers around "Julian Lackland". Through the tales of his deeds, his friends, and his loves, we meet a beautiful, loving, and fun man--one who lives by a Knight's code. He is surrounded by the people he loves--more like family than friends, a group of mercenaries known as "the Rowdies". And the action--their journeys, challenges, heartbreaks, and triumphs, continue through the book.

But, there are many layers to Julian Lackland, and as the years pass by, we see the layers pulled back, revealing his complexities and his human frailty. Then, your heart is taken by the man who wants what he can never have, and is crushed by his own perceived failures that haunt his dreams.

There is sword-fighting, dragons, court-intrigue, deception, countries at war, all played out over the passing of years.

Imaginative, and full of all the trappings of the Knights and kingdoms of old, The Last Good Knight takes you on a journey that last a lifetime for Julian--and ended in tears--bittersweet tears for this reader. -)
The Last Good Knight is a complex, fascinating, and wholly entertaining read. Each chapter is a story unto itself, and with headings such as "The Lady Slays a Dragon," or "The Murder of Crows," what entertaining stories they are!

The chapters also move the larger story along, creating stories within the larger framework of the novel. There are many minor characters, and each has his or her own story as well. Somehow, Jasperson makes each entirely satisfactory.

Sir Julian Lackland is a work of art. The "Last Good Knight" is courtly, handsome, and funny, and he is very human as well. His love, Lady Mags, is well-drawn too, as are all the fighting ladies of the Rowdies.

For any reader who yearns for tales of knights, duels, dragons, fantasy, and love, this book is an extremely satisfying read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
