I enjoyed this story of Skye Sorenson and The oldest Winslow brother Brooks. Skye has worked for her father at his marina all of her life. Her mother left them when she was young so it was always just her dad and a few cousins for family. She loved to sail and her current boyfriend was on a two year trek around the world alone when they originally had planned on going together. Brooks Winslow has kept his boats anchored in her father marina since he was young. Skye had been infatuated with him since she was 10 years old. Brooks needs her to bid on him in a charity auction and then the deal is for her to work as his crew for a week, sailing along the east coast south to Charleston. The story brings to light a few interesting questions. Is the past the past and you move on and/or are you your parents keeper.Product details

This story was very slow moving. I read part of it and then skimmed to the end. I did not like the hero. He was very one dimensional. I certainly would not want to have anything to do with a man who used an escort service. The heroine was sweet but not very interesting. The author's view of sex is juvenile. Brooks is willing to wait until Skye is ready to make love but at this point they have already had oral sex. Oral sex is sex and it is making love.I have read articles about juveniles getting STD from oral sex yet they do not consider it sex. This author is doing a great disservice to any young people reading this book. The premise was interesting but don't be fooled the book is boring and the characters act like juveniles.
Bidding on Brooks is a sweet, cleverly written friends-to-lovers story. This is the first in the Winslow Brothers series and I loved every minute of it. There isn’t a book by Katy that I haven’t read and loved. She has a way of spinning her special kind of magic when she writes and Bidding on Brooks is not different.
This is Brooks and Skye’s story. Brooks is the eldest brother of the Winslow clan and the father figure to all his younger siblings. This story begins with him being strong-armed by his sister Jessica into “volunteering” his for a bachelor auction. Being an ex-Olympian, Brooks is the big seller. Not one who likes being set up, he enlists his friend Skye’s help to rig the auction. Convincing her to bid on him so he doesn’t have to spend a week with someone he either doesn’t like or doesn’t know. Skye Sorenson is a sweet tomboy with mad boat mechanic skills. For many years Brooks saw her as a friend and never more than that until she shows up at the auction. Let’s just say Miss Sorenson cleans up well.
Both Brooks and Skye floated through life lonely. The only close relationships they had were with their families. It was a surprise they were able to maintain their friendship. Seeing them sentence themselves in their self-imposed prisons frustrated me. I was eager to see them set themselves free and stop fighting what was going on between them. But even stubborn people have their limits. When they finally set themselves free and gave into what was going on between them, I was a happy girl.
I loved all the little play on words used in this book; how one word can hold so many different meanings. It brought something extra to the story. It made it more beautiful. Bidding on Brooks is one of those stories that make you sigh with happiness and contentment at the end. A true HEA.
Bidding on Brooks was the first book in Katy Regnery’s The Winslow Brother’s series. It was a sweet journey of friends who became more. It took place primarily on the sailboat, The Zephyr, while sailing the waters between Baltimore and Charleston.
Brooks Winslow was a gorgeous and rich Olympian who won bronze in sailboat racing. He was one of the most eligible bachelors and to his dismay, was up for auction for a charity.
Skye Sorensen was the tomboy mechanic at Sorenson Marina. She had known Brooks since she was ten. Brooks convinced her to bid until she won so he could control who he spent his time with. The caveat was that she could skipper his boat.
It was a fairly quick and predictable read; yet still enjoyable. They each had some baggage that had to be resolved which created some drama but that’s pretty much where the drama ended. The rest was a journey of acceptance, understanding and love. It was a 3.5 Rating for me, which rounded up to a 4 on this review site.
Regnery introduced us to Brooks’s siblings - which looks to be a promising and sexy series. We’ll get Preston next in Proposing to Preston.
I really liked this hero. He was your typical rich guy, brought up with any and everything he ever wanted. His father passed when he was 17 and it brought a load of responsibility for him. He became a surrogate father to his younger siblings plus he carried the fear of his dying the same way his father did, at a young age. He lives his life as tho he is going to die at 40. His fear is not uncommon.
The heroine is the daughter of a local Marina owner. She works on the boats for her father. The wife/mother leaves them for the high life of Hollywood. However, she doesn't make it big and winds up in a totally different profession. One that is an embarrassment to the heroine. She is best friends with the hero on a rather easy going level.
He needs favor and she is the only person he knows that can help him. It turns out to change his life as well as hers. This was a fun read with a little bit of hiding secrets, falling in love, and of course a HEA. It was a good, fun read and I enjoyed it and definitely recommend it.
